Musée international de la Croix Rouge et du Croissant Rouge

Did you know?

On 20 November 1985, a memorable ceremony marked the laying of the foundation stone for the Musée international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge, attended by Ursula Furgler, Raisa Gorbachev, Nancy Reagan, and other distinguished guests. Yet the most fascinating element remains hidden from the public… Beneath the stone lies a time capsule containing newspaper clippings, messages, and objects from the period — a secret that has rested undisturbed for nearly forty years, perhaps waiting to be rediscovered one day.

How does humanitarian action affect us all, here and now? To inspire reflection, the museum invites artists and partners from the cultural and research sectors to explore the issues, values, and contemporary relevance of humanitarian action.

The museum positions itself as an open, agile, welcoming space for remembrance, creativity, and debate. By producing original artistic content and fostering ambitious partnerships in Switzerland and internationally, it helps strengthen the influence of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as Geneva’s role on the global stage.
