Musée Barbier-Mueller

Did you know?

“The idea of a piece kept in a cellar or box makes me furious,”

said Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller. This is the conviction that would gave rise to the Musée Barbier-Mueller, a museum dedicated to promoting the arts of world cultures to everyone.

Treasures from around the world nestled in an intimate museum with international appeal

Musée Barbier-Mueller, located in the heart of Geneva’s Old Town, preserves, studies, and exhibits a hugely diverse collection of art objects. It houses several thousand works spanning from antiquity to the present day, with objects from every continent. Every six months, the Musée Barbier-Mueller presents new displays of its collection alongside temporary exhibitions. Contemporary artists are regularly invited by the Musée Barbier-Mueller to reinterpret the collection and rethink the arrangement of the rooms, offering fresh perspectives and changing the way visitors experience the works over time.

The exhibition programme is accompanied by conferences, meetings, readings and performances.
