Did you know?

The address of the FMAC, Chemin du 23-Août, is named after an industrial accident that took place on 23 August 1909 on this site. It was a former industrial site, and the gold refinery still stands there today. This site has given way to culture, or counterculture, with a period of squatting that left a lasting artistic impact. Today, the FMAC is located on the site of these former squats, in buildings that are home to many cultural creators.

The FMAC is the City of Geneva’s art collection, now encompassing more than 5,000 works or sets of works. It grows by around fifty acquisitions each year, which are regularly loaned, exhibited, and shared with the public.

The collection is organised around three distinct areas: public artworks visible in the streets of Geneva; mobile workspaintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, photographs, installations; and video and film works.

This collection, which reflects the diversity of contemporary artistic practices, is a testament to the history of artistic creation in Geneva, the vibrancy of its art scene, and its dialogue with Swiss and international art.
