Did you know?

During a visit to the museum, an artist’s daughter came up to us and told us that she owned a painting by her father that was more interesting than the one we had. A few weeks later, she came back with the painting, which depicted the same subject as the one we already had, in the same format and with the same type of frame, but seen from a different angle and in different shades. Since then, the two works have been hung side by side as a pair.

Opened to the public in 2023, the collection traces the history of art in Geneva from the 18th century to the mid-20th century, with a primary focus on the lake and the surrounding mountains. Views of Lake Geneva – the most numerous – stand alongside views of Geneva countryside and scenes from Valais. The collection also brings together portraits and nudes, still lifes and a few historical subjects.
